Review: Master of Arts (Biblical and Theological Studies)
Degree Offered: Master of Arts (Biblical and Theological Studies) Format: Campus, Online Program Description: This program develops in students a strong comprehension of theology, rooted in a thorough investigation of the Scriptures. As a result of this pursuit, students will be academically fit and spiritually prepared as informed theologians for their particular ministry context or postgraduate studies. Based on their goals, students select one of two tracks: Exegetical or Theological. Exegetical Track: Students in this language-driven track will concentrate heavily on developing their exegetical skills in Greek and Hebrew by taking 18 required credit hours from the original languages and 6 credit hours in open electives from the areas of Bible, theology or ministerial studies. For those interested in postgraduate studies, students may also choose to complete the thesis option or take extra restricted electives to best position themselves for the future. Theological Track: Students in this track will have no language requirements. Instead, students will select 18 credit hours of electives in the areas of Bible, theology, church history, or languages. The remaining 6 credits of open electives include the student's choice of courses from any area of study. Accreditation: Western Seminary is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), the accrediting body for theological schools in the United States and Canada. International Student Requirements: 1. Request a Pre-Application Questionnaire. When Pre-Application received and, when pre-admission standards are met, a formal application will be sent. 2. Complete the formal master's application, including sending a $50 application fee, statement of Christian experience, and personal references. Official transcripts are required from all institutions attended following secondary school. To be official by U.S. standards, the transcript must be sent directly from the college or university to the Admissions Office of Western Seminary. 3. Present proof of mastery of English. 4. Present proof of financial support. 5. The issuing of the Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 Student Status (Form I-20), which is essential when requesting a visa. This cannot be done until all materials are received. 6. The Seminary recommends that application materials be received by March 1 for the upcoming fall semester.
